Food is a main cornerstone of functional medicine. The meals we eat affect nearly every system in the body since our body takes its energy from the vitamins and nutrients we digest. From anti-inflammatory responses to improvements in brain function, your diet can drastically improve your overall health.
We know that each person’s relationship to food is different. That’s why you’ll meet one-on-one with a functional medicine practitioner to work on a personalized treatment plan that supports your unique body’s needs.Â
Â
Fruits and vegetables are rich sources of nutrients, along with whole grains, legumes, herbs, spices, nuts, seeds, and teas. In general, we want to eat more colors—green, yellow-orange, red, blue-purple, and white. To promote good health, it is important to eat fruits and vegetables of varied color each day. Aiming for one to two of each color per day is a healthy goal to strive for!Â
Ultimately, our diets provide our bodies with the energy they need to promote overall health. Diet is not just about “counting calories.” At Tennant Institute, we promote healthy relationships toward food so that all members can embrace longterm and sustainable lifestyle choices.
